The First Gen Student Success Center supports first-generation students through six key areas: Institutional Programming, Biannual Conference, Communities of Practice for Faculty & Instructional Staff, First-Gen Professional Support, Collaborative Partnerships, and Graduate Student Career & Research Development.

While the First-Gen Student Success Center and the First-Gen Institute are both deeply committed to supporting first-gen students, they do so through distinct missions and scopes.

The First-Gen Institute, housed within the College of Education and Human Development, and led by Dr. Rashné Jehangir, is a research-driven hub that focuses on:

  • Advancing knowledge about first-gen undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff
  • Developing and disseminating evidence-based practices
  • Building national communities of praxis
  • Supporting institutional change through scholarship, programming, and policy
